Continuing Education

Our weekly Thursday morning fellowship lecture is provided by local experts in topics relevant to palliative care. Attendees are eligible for CE credits.

Educational Experiences for Non-Physician Trainees

Our social workers participate in inter-professional education with fellows, care management department staff, and physical, occupational and speech therapists about palliative care.

Our advance practice nurses precept Nurse Practitioner (NP) students throughout the year. Usually they host 1 to 3 each year for 2-4 weeks shadow rotations.  

Community-Based Education

Our faculty participate in community education and outreach.  Examples of recent community events in New Mexico include:

  • Participation in an American Cancer Society-Cancer Action Network community roundtable event discussing palliative care access and resources in New Mexico 
  • Memorial Medical Center Grand Rounds, Las Cruces, NM
  • Annual New Mexico American Academy of Family Practice Conference, Ruidoso, NM by Erin FitzGerald
  • Community lecture on palliative care for seniors living at La Vida Llena
  • Community lecture on palliative care for patients treated in PAH clinic
  • Critical Care Expo booth on palliative care
  • Project ECHO by Lisa Marr
  • Liaison to jail and prisons in New Mexico for education of staff for end of life care for inmates, Erin FitzGerald
  • Participation annually in the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network community program on palliative care, Esme Finlay
  • Biannual community lecture for NM Family Cancer Service retreat titled "Pain, Palliative Care and Hospice Myth Busters.
