Applications for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program are accepted only through the "Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Application deadline for the next Fellowship program is the last day of November of each year.

Hematology/Oncology Fellowship

The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship is based at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. The program only accepts applications through ERAS. The application process opens July 1st and applications are due August 15th.

The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program accepts two trainees every year to complete training leading to eligibility for certification in both disciplines. This fellowship program lasts 3 years. It is expected that trainees in this program will possess excellent clinical skills, deep knowledge of these disciplines, a capacity for clear yet critical thought, a mindset of investigation, and a high standard of professional ethics.

Year 1:

  • 3 Months Hematology Inpatient Service
  • 3 Months MedOnc Inpatient Service
  • 1 Month Radiation Oncology
  • 1 Month Hospica/Palliative 
  • 1 Month Heme
  • 1 Month GI
  • 1 Month Breast
  • 1 Month Lung
  • ½ Day Fellowship Clinic weekly w/Fellowship Director/Associate Director
  • ½ Day Clinic with a mentor weekly

Year 2:

  • 2 Months Hematology Inpatient Service

On the third year fellows began to take specialty electives and do research.

 

Mandatory Conferences:

  1. NCCN Guidelines: Tuesdays 3:00pm-4:00pm
  2. Core Curriculum: Wednesdays 7:00am-7:45am
  3. Hematology/Oncology Journal Club: Wednesdays 7:45am-8:30am

Optional Conferences:

  1. Internal Medicine Grand Rounds: Thursdays 12:30pm-1:30pm
