Pulmonary imaging

The Section of Geriatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is dedicated in providing excellent clinical care of older adults in multiple settings including outpatient, inpatient, nursing home, home care and palliative care. Care is provided at the Senior Health Center and the New Mexico Veterans Health Care System. Our faculty serves as Medical Directors and primary care physicians in community nursing homes, home care and hospice programs. The Section offers an accredited one-year Fellowship in Geriatrics for family medicine and internal medicine physicians.

UNM Senior Health Center

The UNM Senior Health Center provides comprehensive geriatric care for patients over the age of 70 by a team of interdisciplinary health care providers.

UNM Center on Aging

The UNM Section of Geriatrics has created an educational infrastructure that is penetrating all levels of medical education and it is using existing networks to provide geriatric education to physicians and practices statewide. Read More.


First NM Governor’s Alzheimer’s Leadership Award Presented to HSC’s Janice Knoefel Janice Knoefel, MD, MPH, was recently given the first annual “New Mexico Governor’s Alzheimer’s Leadership Award” at the Alzheimer’s Association, NM Chapter’s Professional Conference. The award was presented in recognition of Knoefel’s years of professional service to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, and her tireless efforts to support the NM State Dementia Plan initiatives. Congratulations Dr. Knoefel!
