Our hospitalists are the backbone of the UNM Internal Medicine Residency program, serving as Attendings. Applications for the HSC Internal Medicine Resident Program are accepted only through the "Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
The UNM Hospitalist Group is currently under significant expansion. We are actively seeking motivated providers with a passion for teaching and a drive to continually improve our practice and those of our colleagues. We have designed our program with sustainability and career/life satisfaction in mind. We enjoy an excellent mix of clinical, educational, research, and administrative activities tailored to the interest of each of our members. Kendall Rogers, MD, CPE, FACP, FHM, Chief of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine and Associate Professor at the UNM Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, has been named one of the Top Hospitalists for 2010 in the November issue of ACP Hospitalist, a publication of the American College of Physicians, for his notable contributions in quality improvement and leadership.
Rogers is a Fellow in the Society of Hospital Medicine and serves as a mentor for the SHM Glycemic Control Mentored Implementation Program. In two years, UNM hospital cut its hyperglycemia rate from 55% to 36% and is now rated top 10 for glycemic control among 575 hospitals according to the 2009 RALS report.
Under Rogers' leadership, the UNM hospitalist program has grown from four to 17 hospitalists in just three years. Rogers has focused his efforts on creating multi-disciplinary teams to improve patient care and led an initiative to implement electronic physician documentation which has improved communication resulting in better care and discharge rates.
