The New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System (NMVAHCS) provides primary, secondary, and tertiary health care for Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 18. The facility is authorized for 310 beds, and is a Level 1 tertiary referral center for New Mexico, Southern Colorado, and West Texas. The hospital currently operates 184 acute hospital beds, 90 residential rehabilitation treatment program beds, a 24-bed Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, a 40-bed Domiciliary, and a 36-bed Nursing Home Care Unit.

The Albuquerque VA offers a wide range of procedural services including colonoscopy, EGD, flexible sigmoidoscopy, push and single balloon enteroscopy, ERCP, EUS, EMR, abdominal paracentesis, radio-frequency ablation, capsule endoscopy, high resolution esophageal manometry, high resolution anorectal manometry, ambulatory reflux monitoring with pH-impedance, biofeedback therapy, and breath testing. Mobile cases in the ICUs, ER, and operating room are performed using a motorized self propelled procedure cart.
In 2012 the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque concluded a complete renovation of the gastroenterology endoscopy unit and now has an expansive state-of-the-art GI endoscopy center. The new endoscopy unit contains a large cutting-edge biliary suite, five endoscopy suites, two procedure suites dedicated to GI motility, a dedicated 18-bed patient recovery area, an expanded and newly renovated fellows' work room, conference room, and a kitchen/break area.
